1968
On this day in 1968, the Imps were eyeing three new players. Things had picked up under Ron Gray, and he was eyeing three players. One was Dave Smith, who obviously went on to be a legend at the club, and someone whose capture on July 4th makes it a decent day, without the other two.
Which is a good thing, because we didn’t sign the other two. Bobby Drake was a Fulham player who had spent seven seasons with the club, making just 15 appearances. He was not signed by the club, instead going to Nuneaton, but not appearing in full time football again.
Parker, who had played with Villa in his youth, did join Gray’s side but started just four matches before moving to Exeter City. He finished his career in Devon, moving to Torquay United in 1974.
