Imps 2-1 Macclesfield

Former Gillingham, Dover and Maidstone defender Scott Lindsey named as Chatham Town's new manager

Scott Lindsey, the current Crawley Town boss, could have laid claim to being our most successful caretaker ever – he managed two games in 2010, overseeing a 2-1 Imps win. Bearing in mind that was the season we went down, and wins were at a premium, that’s pretty decent going.

Lindsey had a modest playing career, mostly made up of non-league spells, but he did play professionally at Gillingham. It was here he first emerged as a coach, only leaving when joining Chris Sutton’s Imps in October 2009. A year later, Sutton folded like a cheap tablecloth, and Lindsey stepped up to take control. Barry Corr’s third-minute goal ensured we lost to Southend in his first game, whilst Moses Swaibu and Jamie Clapham scored either side of Hamza Bencherif’s strike for Macclesfield to give us a 2-1 win.

By October 16th, a defeat at Shrewsbury, Steve Tilson was in charge, and Lindsey returned to coaching. He was released as we were relegated but remained in the game. He took the job at Swindon in 2022 before joining Crawley earlier this season.
