Ten Non-League Gems City Could Eye Up This Summer

Tim Akinola – Chesterfield (Arsenal)

Here’s a name we know. Tim Akinola was once our player, but we released him despite a positive loan spell at Lincoln United. There must have been a reason, but since then, he’s done well for himself. He moved to Huddersfield, then Arsenal, and has also had a brief, injury-hit loan spell in Scotland with Dundee United. This season, he’s been playing for Chesterfield in the National League, and he’s impressed.

He’s been a firm favourite with their fans, and at 21, has filled out and is now strong and combative. He’s been left out of the Chesterfield side recently, and it’s been unclear why, because it certainly isn’t his ability. He’s the sort of midfielder I could see working well alongside Ethan Erhahon when we need to defend against bigger teams, such as Derby or Sheff Weds, next season.
