Stacey West Top Ten Moments of the Decade

Lincoln 1-0 Dover January 31st 2015

Another non-classic, another game that I suspect many of you won’t recall at all. I was a game in the Gary Simpson era, our seventh home win on the spin and perhaps just further evidence that we had turned a corner, even if the work was still there to do. We weren’t in relegation trouble and for a short while, I thought we might even be in the promotion frame.

We bagged on 47 minutes through Ben Tomlinson, but a decent Dover side hit the woodwork twice, once through Sean Raggett. In the end, we won and sat just two points outside the play-off places. Why such a great occasion for me?

It was my return to the ground. I’d moved away after giving up Poacher, in fact relinquishing my role was part of me moving away. I’d snuck back a couple of times to watch the lads when I could, but on the morning on the 31st I drove to Worksop for a job interview for a role in Louth. I got the job inside a minute of the interview and as I stepped back into the ground that day (as a boardroom guest of Dave Parman) I knew I was coming home.

Within six months we were in our new home near Louth, not long after I started writing the Stacey West, but it all happened on this day and I’ll never forget it.
