Thanks: For putting me on the cover of your programme
You know by now that this feature is light-hearted and often a little personal, so I’ve got to end on a personal note of thanks. Morecambe came to our place in 2008 and brought their mascot. We had a real laugh and a lot of photos taken as we ran rampage around Sincil Bank, something the current incumbent of Poacher would never get away with.
It was a 1-1 draw, Craig Stanley scoring for them as he often did passed us. Anyway, later in the season we went there (belatedly after the original game was called off) and bagged a 2-1 win. I was delighted to find my face, or rather my head inside the face of Poacher, splashed all over the cover of their programme.
It’s not the proudest moment of my life, but it’s probably up there. Somewhere.
Shrimps rather than Shrimpers I believe (as per their programme). The Shrimpers are Southend.
