Matt Green

What has gone wrong for Matt? Is he simply the victim of circumstance? After three in three at the beginning of the season he’s become nothing more than an impact sub, maybe a victim of Shay’s excellent form, but maybe there’s something else.
It certainly isn’t attitude, he’s been focused when he’s come on and has run teams ragged with his constant channel hopping. He appears in almost all league games, 14 appearances so far this season, but just two starts. This, from last season’s leading scorer and one of the stand out performers.
I fear for Matt now. I don’t want to, I think he’s the type of forward we only have one of, an eager runner in the channels, constantly probing and looking for an opening. He might not be a ‘natural’ scorer as some feel, but he’ll always get a goal because he works incredibly hard. That said, will he be happy ending the season with six starts and 36 outings from the bench? That’s what he’s trending towards.
If he doesn’t make his mark I fear we won’t have ever really seen the best of the former Birmingham man.
Best Moment
It has to be his cameo against Swindon. He played 13 minutes, scored one, set one up and made a narrow 2-1 victory a comprehensive 4-1 win. since then, he’s been chasing that initial high. Without success.
Didn’t think O’Connor could play on Tuesday because of his red card against Mansfailed?
He can’t
Do tend to worry about Matt.In my view he should be playing.
Shay is clearly a talented footballer however his performances have in general been good without being exceptional. I always say that good players need good players around them. Expect to see one or two significant signings in January that may well enable him to take his performances to new level.
