Matt Rhead
Who knows the story of the Mad Monk, Rasputin? He was assassinated due to his influence over Tsar Nicolas II of Russia, but it took an age to kill him off. Everything they tried didn’t work, they poisoned his cake, but it failed. They poisoned his wine, but that failed too. They shot him in the chest, but still he refused to die.
That’s Matt Rhead that is.
Every year he’s written off, thought to be surplus to requirements. Many felt once Danny took over, he’d be gone. Didn’t happen. They then felt he’d be adrift in the Football League, but he emerged as a key player. This season it was feared he’d be gone, drowned out by the quality of our summer signings. He’s still here.
Matt Rhead is an enigma, a legend in waiting, a man so down to earth if he came to your house you’d think he was going to tile your bathroom or do you patio. He’s like you and me, a Stoke fan who lives his dream of being a full-time pro. Sure, his mobility is limited and sure, he doesn’t score as many as he once did but he’s still effective. He’s still a big part of team Lincoln.
Best Moment
His performance against Port Vale has to be the key moment for him this season. He didn’t grab a goal as he might have hoped, but he played a big role in our 6-2 win against his beloved Stoke’s rivals. he did the same when we beat them 4-0 as well.

Can’t differ from those Gary. Good assessments!
Rhead is one “L” of a player. He is Lazy. He is Limited. He is Loutish, and should have been sent off at Wembley for that cynical challenge on Shrewsbury’s keeper. He is Laughable, constantly falling over in an attempt to con the referee. As for Legend – nowhere near.
Harsh.
8 for Pett is harsh for me mate! I was surprised he stayed but he’s now my favourite!
