Player Assessment With a Third of the Season Gone – Pt2

The former Derby County man has grown in stature and influence at the back for City and the sooner he’s back to full fitness, the sooner we can stop giving away silly goals.

He’s looked every inch the former Premier League player and age means little when you’re in such fine physical shape as he seems to be. Between them, him and Michael Bostwick should terrify opponents. He’s a threat in both areas, calm in possession but not afraid to ‘kick it out, if in doubt’. I imagine Steve Thompson admires everything about him, being a centre half himself.

I was dubious when he signed, was it another journeyman looking for a last stop on the train ride of his career? As it turns out, no. he’s arguably the best central defender we’ve had at the club in years. Even the slightly auspicious start against Grimsby was soon forgotten, unlike that last gasp winner against MK Dons.

Best Moment

It has to be the MK Dons winner. What an afternoon that was, playing so well, going 1-0 down only for the atmosphere to be cranked up and up. It even beats the winner against Macclesfield, a clam finish more suitable to a ball playing midfielder.

9/10

  1. Rhead is one “L” of a player. He is Lazy. He is Limited. He is Loutish, and should have been sent off at Wembley for that cynical challenge on Shrewsbury’s keeper. He is Laughable, constantly falling over in an attempt to con the referee. As for Legend – nowhere near.
