Player Assessment With a Third of the Season Gone – Pt1

Harry Toffolo

The position of left back is one that seems to breed consistency and continuity in our side. It is usually Sam ‘steady seven’ Habergham in the role, but he’s been usurped by Harry Toffolo. The former Norwich man is one of only two players to be ever-present in the side this season and as the games drag on he looks more competent.

I still question some of his defensive work. I’m not sure he likes a pacey winger running at him and often the opposition are able to carry the ball into our area without a solid tackle. It isn’t just Harry’s fault though and perhaps it is a tactic to avoid giving away dead ball situations. Someone ought to tell Bozzy.

Anyway, I’m not one to moan unduly and what I do like about Harry is his attacking work. He overlaps like a winger and would be far more suited to a wing back role, maybe even a left midfield spot. He’s quick, tricky and can deliver a wicked ball. His corners have been useful this season, it was his delivery that gave us the opener at Port Vale and set us on our way.

Best Moment

Like Scott Wharton, it has to be a tie between Swindon and Port Vale. In one he put in two excellent deliveries, in the other he scored and was genuinely an attacking threat all day long. I’ll go for the Swindon rout, a result that wasn’t as lauded as it should have been at the time.

8/10

  1. About right but I think Toffolo has dropped off slightly from early in the season. I couldn’t put him along side Vickers score wise. I think a 7.
