Player Assessment With a Third of the Season Gone – Pt1

Scott Wharton

I could almost write the same for Scott as I did for James Wilson. he too is a victim of circumstance, a very good defender who has suffered from the presence of Jason Shackell. As a left footed centre back he has perhaps, more than anyone, been the loser in Shackell’s move to the Imps.

When called upon, bar one game, Scott has put in some good performances. I think calls that he was ‘as good’ as Sean Raggett were a little premature, the Carlisle game underlined his occasional frailty as much as any, but on the whole he plays far better than his age would suggest. he’s composed, calculated and strong in the tackle.

There’s just that Carlisle game that blots his copybook, making him slip a mark from what I would have given him. Nerves? Naivety? Lack of game time? Whatever it was, it’s fresh and in my mind, still raw.

Best Moment

It would be too easy to pick Port Vale, a game in which he scored after coming back into the side, but he also turned in a confident display against Swindon in our 4-1 victory and deserves credit for that too.

6/10

  1. About right but I think Toffolo has dropped off slightly from early in the season. I couldn’t put him along side Vickers score wise. I think a 7.
