‘Tried Everything To Keep Deji’ – Bromley Boss On Imps Latest Recruit

We’re likely to see new signing Deji Elerewe on the bench for the Imps tonight, days after he was announced as our latest new recruit.

The Bromley man was in attendance as we beat Burton the other night, and he’ll likely feature in the squad for the match with Bradford City.

If Andy Woodman, the Bromley coach, had his way, Deji would be lining up against Crewe this evening, and in his pre-match press conference, he outlined has he was disappointed to lose one of his biggest players.

“Deji wasn’t a player that we wanted to lose for the football club,” he said. “He wasn’t a player that any of us wanted to lose. But there was a clause in his contract that his agent was aware of, and these agents got activated by another football club.

“Some things were out of my hands and that’s just the way football works sometimes.”

The Ravens are currently top of League Two and could conceivably be in our division next season. Of course, we may not be in the third tier, and doubtless the lure of possible Championship football, along with our record for developing players, caught the player’s attention.

“We tried everything to keep Deji,” added Woodman. “He’s moved to a club in a higher division and we have to respect what he wanted and what he did for us. So, yeah, we’ll move on. That’s football.”

It is harsh when you lose your top players, like Sean Raggett and Alex Woodyard, for example, but by not standing in their way, you get a reputation as a club that treats players right, which does help with onward transfers.

Bromley will now turn their attention to their title challenge, and we can focus on our top two push, hoping Deji Elerewe plays a big role in that.
