Double Contract Boost for Wycombe Wanderers Amid Ipswich Town Windfall

Wycombe Wanderers pair Luke Leahy and Stuart Moore have extended their contracts at Adams Park.

The lengths of both deals are undisclosed, though in Leahy’s case, he will remain with the Chairboys into the 26/27 campaign.

Wanderers’ vice-captain has been among the most consistent performers in League One since joining in the summer of 2023. He made the second-highest number of appearances in the EFL last year.

Since his first game for the Buckinghamshire outfit, he ranks inside the top seven in the third tier for appearances, minutes played, assists, chances created and touches.

Experienced goalkeeper Stuart Moore has also signed a new deal with the Chairboys. His solitary appearance for the club saw the former Reading and Blackpool man keep a clean sheet in a Vertu Trophy victory over Gillingham in November.

Moore was brought to the club to provide back-up to first-choice keepers Will Norris and Mikki van Sas.

Head Coach Michael Duff was pleased with the news, as he continues his planning for the remainder of the season.

“Luke’s been a mainstay of the team, and he’s got just as big role off the pitch in the way he sets standards and lives them as well. You want to keep your best players and that’s what the club have done, so it’s really good news.

“Mooro’s been absolutely top-drawer. He knows his role as third-choice keeper and he’s a brilliant professional. He looks after himself in the gym and pushes other players to improve themselves. He’s a really valuable member of the squad.”

Once a left-back, Leahy has been a mainstay in the middle of the park this term, laying on five assists in 31 appearances in all competitions. The former Shrewsbury Town man bagged 11 times during his debut season in Buckinghamshire, adding a further ten goal contributions last term.

Successive wins have lifted Wycombe to 9th in League One, just three points shy of the top six places. Duff’s side face a crucial battle in their pursuit of another Play-Off campaign this afternoon. Peterborough United, who are only a point behind Wanderers, are the visitors to Adams Park later today.

Championship Transfer Benefits Wycombe

There was further good news for the Chairboys after Anis Mehmeti completed his transfer to Ipswich Town. It is believed that Wycombe included a sell-on clause when the Albanian left Buckinghamshire for Bristol City in January 2023.

Wycombe had already banked a club-record fee for his services. But the Chairboys also stated the following when he departed: “The deal includes the potential for future payments depending on various landmarks being reached in Anis’s career.”

Joining from Woodford Town, in 97 appearances for Wanderers, the 25-year-old scored 19 times and provided nine assists. Mehmeti’s 14-goal contributions this term caught the attention of the promotion-chasing Tractor Boys, as he hopes to complete his journey from non-league football to the Premier League.

It means that Wycombe may have further funds to play with this month, after selling their record signing, Magnus Westergaard, just 12 months after he joined. Sam Bell (Bristol City), George Abbott (Tottenham Hotspur) and Donnell McNeilly (Nottingham Forest) have all been recalled by their parent clubs in January.

James Tilley departed earlier this week, joining former club, AFC Wimbledon, on a loan deal until the end of the season. Luke Harris has been the solitary incoming thus far this window on a temporary deal from Fulham, after spending the first half of the campaign in the Championship with Oxford United.
