This is a bit of a gimme when it comes to recommending League Two players, because it’s believed Portsmouth are interested in taking him to the Championship. He’s another Walsall player, and probably one of the reasons Mat Sadler has found another position for Courtney Clarke.
Barrett came through the academies at Leicester City and Burnley before making his senior breakthrough with Kettering Town in the summer of 2021. A strong first season earned him the club’s Vice President’s Player of the Year award and a move to AFC Fylde, where he played a major part in their National League North title in spring 2023.
He stepped into League Two with Walsall in June 2024 and continued to rise, earning a place in the League Two Team of the Season at the end of his first campaign.
He’s recently been described by his manager as the best right back in League Two, and it’s hard to argue against that. 69.2% defensive duels won, four goal involvements, 63.3% dribble success…. he has all the numbers a League One club will be looking for.
My guess? He’ll bypass our division.
