Former Lincoln City defender Alan Sheehan has been dismissed by Championship side Swansea City after a poor run of results left the club hovering above the relegation zone.

The 39-year-old was relieved of his duties this morning, following Swansea’s 4-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday, a result that extended their disappointing start to the campaign. The Welsh outfit sit 18th in the Championship table, having won just four of their opening 15 league matches.

Sheehan was appointed permanently in April 2025 after impressing during a caretaker spell, guiding the Swans to 24 points from 13 games to finish 11th last season. However, despite optimism over the summer, his side struggled to build on that progress, and Saturday’s heavy defeat proved to be the final straw for the Swansea hierarchy.

The Irishman, who made a single appearance for City in 2020, had previously served on the coaching staff at Luton Town and Southampton, following Chris Cohen and Nathan Jones, before taking the reins in South Wales. He played his only City game against Burton Albion the week before the COVID shutdown, giving away a penalty that Lucas Akins missed in our 3-2 win.

Swansea fans voiced their frustration during and after the Ipswich game, with boos ringing around the Swansea.com Stadium at both half-time and full-time. The club are now expected to begin their search for a new head coach immediately, with assistant staff taking temporary charge.

Sheehan’s departure makes him the latest managerial casualty in a Championship season already filled with high turnover, as clubs react swiftly to the intense pressure of maintaining league status and chasing promotion ambitions.
