Cardiff’s Kion Etete Suffers Quad Tear On Rotherham Loan

Cardiff City striker Kion Etete faces a lengthy spell out after tearing a quad muscle while training with loan club Rotherham United. The forward, has already missed time this season with knee and groin issues and has made nine appearances for the Millers.

Rotherham boss Matt Hamshaw confirmed the severity of the setback and suggested a return before Christmas is unlikely, with the possibility of a longer lay-off not ruled out.

In explaining the incident, Hamshaw said Etete was not even at maximum speed when the injury occurred.

“It’s looking like it could be two or three months, but it could be longer,” he said, adding, “Unfortunately he’s ripped his quad, so not so clever. It’s really bad news for Kion individually and also us as a club.”

The timeline raises the prospect of Etete returning to south Wales in January if the rehabilitation programme points that way.

The setback is particularly frustrating for a player who spoke recently about needing momentum after a difficult campaign. For Rotherham, who have been managing his minutes carefully, the loss affects attacking options during a congested period, while Cardiff will monitor developments closely with their loanee’s long-term fitness a clear priority.
