Lincoln City February Review

February wasn’t a great month for the Imps.

Sure, we bagged a record win at Field Mill, but that was one decent result from five. The loss at Oreint could have been a point, and both Wigan and Cambridge were there for the taking, but we could do so.

We did score seven goals, conceding just six, but five points from five games isn’t a great return at all.

As you know by now, The Stacey West allows the reader to rate each player after a game, coming up with a definite Player of the Month. To qualify, a player must have played in 50% of the games that month, and to get a rating a player must have been on the field of play for 15 minutes or more as a sub.

With that in mind, here is your Player of the Month and the best and worst of the team’s performances.

Player of the Month

Paudie O’Connor (6.86)

It’s almost getting boring now, isn’t it? O’Connor wins for the second month in a row, and rightly so. While discussion rages on about his future, there’s zero drop off in his performances, and while errors are leading to goals, rarely is one of those errors laid at his door.

In fairness to Sean Roughan, he was a very close second, with new signing James Collins third.

Individual Performance of the Month

When a defender scores a goal, it usually gets him a high rating, and when he’s also the captain, leading you to your biggest away victory against local rivals, you’re almost certainly getting Man of the Match. That’s what happened at Field Mill – Paudie was the best Imp on the pitch that night, and turned in the best performance of any player in any given game in February.

Best Team Performance of the Month

v Mansfield Town (A) 7.03

I am a little surprise the ratings are so low here, but in fairness, we weren’t really any better or worse than when we played Orient a couple of days before. There were just no individual errors, we kept our only clean sheet of the month and scored three goals. It’s almost nice to see fans didn’t get too carried away with the win and start putting this up there with truly big wins, like Posh at home.

Worst Team Performance of the Month

Burton Albion (H) – 5.21

In a game where neither side deserved a point, it as the Brewers who took one courtesy of a late goal. It was the second late goal we conceded in the month (the other being Orient), but bear in mind we also did our own little smash-and-grab against Wigan. Still, this game certainly won’t linger long in the memory.
