DF: Hamza Bencherif – Algeria
The Paris-born defender had two spells with the Imps, and both were half-decent. His first was a loan from Nottingham Forest in the 2007/08 season. He returned to thew City Ground and had a modest career until 2014, when he surfaced again. After a short stint in Algeria, and a trial at Cambridge who had just been promoted to the Football League, he signed for City.
Will he be best remembered for his goal against Grimsby? Probably, but it’s easy to forget he was something of a monster for us that season, scoring six times. He swapped the Imps for Halifax at the end of the season, but is remembered fondly by Imps.
