October started and ended with a defeat, but the results that came in between were strong enough to give us hope for the future.
In total, the Imps played seven games this month; we scored five goals, conceded four, kept four clean sheets and picked up eight league points. We also progressed in the Papa John’s Trophy, courtesy of the win against Newcastle U21s.
Here are the best of the performers and performances, as voted for by you on our player rater widget. I’ll also include some stats that went down well last month.

Player of the Month – Regan Poole (7.51)
Poole was one of only three players to appear in every game in October, Danny Mandroiu and Sean Roughan being the other two.
The defender snatched two Man of the Match awards but was excellent in games he did not get the top vote; he was close to winning it against Bolton after playing the month on the right side of a three-man defence.
Poole leads by example. In Tom’s absence, he’s the captain and he’s never left wanting for effort. In a month that saw us beat a team in the top two and hold a team in third to a 1-1- draw, it is unsurprising that a defender comes out on top. What might be surprising, and certainly a first for the site is that a defender was named Man of the Match in all seven matches. Poole was the best of a very good bunch in October.

Individual Performance of the Month – Adam Jackson (Ipswich A) 9.40
Previous players to score more than nine in a single game include hat trick heroes Anthony Scully and Jack Diamond, and Alex Palmer, who saved penalties in a cup tie. For a defender to score 9.4 in a game without scoring tells you everything you need to know about Jackson at Ipswich. He was a colossus, a player on a mission, and whilst the whole team defended superbly, Jackson stood out for putting his body on the line, time and again.

Team Performance of the Month – Ipswich Town (A) – 8.10
Here’s a note for you to consider – when we won 5-1 at Cambridge last season, you lot only rated it as an 8.00 team performance, which is, of course, excellent, but not as good as the win at Ipswich. Travel a bit further down the M11, and the rating gets higher. We didn’t have much of the ball, but we did get three points, and I think this tells you more about what the selection of fans who use the player rater want to see.
It’s not about scoring five or six, it’s not about beating a local rival, it’s about putting your body on the line, fighting for a cause, and getting a big result over the line. In possession, we were nothing special at Ipswich, but you’ve given it a rating as high as any last season, bar Sunderland away. It’s a big statement but also reflective of what fans seemingly want.
