The Four Old Faces Who Could Be Like New Signings

Lasse Sorensen

I think it’s fair to say that Lasse Sorensen didn’t have a good season for the Imps, and he wasn’t one who seemed to fall out of favour. Sanders and Haks definitely did, Hops was injured, but Lasse was given plenty of chances; 19 League One starts. and 30 outings overall. That was more appearances than Cohen Bramall, TJ Eyoma and Adam Jackson, and only two shy of matching Chris Maguire. With the greatest of respect, can you name more than a single game where he stood out? Probably not.

I recall going to the Priory teaching gig and saying I rated Sorensen to my friend Gary and him just shaking his head. A couple of days later, I went away to Shrewsbury and looked on in abject horror as he had a stinker. I remember thinking, ‘this lad will never make a footballer’, but that’s not true, is it? He is a footballer, one who has appeared (once) in the Premier League, who has played for Denmark at multiple age groups and who the club valued enough to bring in last summer. He works hard, really hard; what if he’s just a pre-season away from putting that hard work together with his obvious ability, which Imps fans have not yet seen?

If that happens, then perhaps Lasse Sorensen, a holding midfielder, could be the most important not-new signing of all.

  1. I think you’re spot on Gary. These four will come good. We saw just enough of Sanders and Sorenson to see potential. And Hopper and Adelukan are in the form is temporary, class is permanent mould.
