Give Youth a Chance

This might seem strange, given that Freddie Draper and Sam Long both got game time, but we never seemed to have many youngsters on the bench. There were times when we went into games without a sub keeper, but there’s Matt Boylan in the youths; why not stick him on the bench, just in case? When we drew 1-1 with Carlisle, we only made two changes, and young Oisin Gallagher sat on the bench twiddling his thumbs; why not give him ten minutes? We did it last season, Hayden Cann got a run out, and even earlier in the campaign Billy Brooks came on, so why the reluctance later on? Morgan Worsfold-Gregg and Elicha Ahui both penned deals before the end of the season, could they not have had ten minutes against Crewe? We had four on the bench that afternoon, and whilst I know there were injuries etc, I think fans felt young players simply weren’t getting the minutes they needed. I don’t mean drop them in the first team against Sheff Weds, but I hope Mark Kennedy sees a time and a place for them in the cup (EFL Cup and Trophy) this season.
