Morgan Whittaker and Liam Cullen

Tomorrow could be very interesting for Liam Cullen and Morgan Whittaker. I’ve put them together because they’re a natural pair; both from Swansea, both played at the weekend and yet both are supposedly playing their last game for City tomorrow. My money is on at least one of them returning next season. It seems Russell Martin isn’t keen on Whittaker, and I think his loan has been half-decent. He’s a local lad to us, and I just sense that we might be in with a shout of taking him next year, either on loan or permanently. There’s a real player in there, I can feel it, and I’m not massively against Liam Cullen either. I think he’s been unlucky; his xG has been good (more than five), but he’s been wasteful, scoring once. However, he’s proven he gets into good positions, so there’s an outside chance he’s not far away. I think if either starts tomorrow, then there’s a decent chance they could ‘doing a TJ’ and end up being paraded on the field before a pre-season friendly.
I really have enjoyed reading your comments week after week Gary, even the exasperating “played well but lost” theme of so many of them. All I ask is that Michael tries to get a good balance of age and experience and youthful ability for next season. Hard, I appreciate, with only what he can find stuffed down the back of the couch. I’ll settle for a safe mid-table end to next season with a few really good home performances on the way. Oh, and please lads, can we have a good win on Saturday against Crewe? Send us home (or to the pub) feeling good, not full of foreboding. Don’t let us down.
