Five Marmite Lincoln City Players

Derek Asamoah

Here’s one I didn’t rate that I’m pretty sure a lot of people did, the pacey winger Derek Asamoah. He was one who popped up towards the end of Keith’s reign as manager, always ready with a run into nowhere or full of pace but no clue where he was going.

No, Asamoah was not one for me. He was quick, but so is a greyhound but you wouldn’t play one on the wing, would you?

There are those who point to his later career, Carlisle and Hamilton Academical as well as a move to Nice in France and say he was far better than we gave him credit for. In 2015/16 he scored for Carlisle against Liverpool in the League Cup, earning his side a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Surely anyone who does that had a bit about him, right? He just suffered because we played long ball and he needed lots into feet, or so some will tell you.

He scored twice in nearly 50 appearances. That says it all in my opinion.
