Here’s one that will divide fans, even more, was he just a pointy, shouty man or could his presence have stopped us slipping out of the league?
One thing I always feel about Scott Kerr was he suffered from playing in the years after Keith, plying his trade in Lincoln sides that got progressively worse. He was a midfielder who always seemed to be one pass behind an assist or a goal, but one who spent the entire game cajoling, shouting and of course pointing.
Worthy captain? In my eyes, yes. He was a part of Schofield’s team that shone for six months, part of Keith’s last play off side and he fought back against Jackson, Tilson and Sutton, proving each one wrong. Eventually, it was Tilson who did away with him, farming him out on loan when we needed midfield stability.
There are those who think he was limited, a player who could pass and tackle but had no significant impact. I know Kev Barwise is reading this now with steam pouring from his ears, such is his disdain for Kerr. In my opinion, anger is misplaced. At least Kerr cared enough to fight and battle.
He last appeared at Sincil Bank on Boxing Day 2013, for Grimsby. They beat us 2-0 and he was roundly booed almost every time he touched the ball. Did you rate Kerr, or are you in the camp who felt he spent too much time shouting?
