Thanks, No Thanks – Gillingham

No Thanks – Tony Sinclair

After a handful of appearances for Gillingham in 2010/11, including a start in our last trip to Kent, Tony Sinclair came to Sincil Bank. He should have brought Football League quality and maybe in better circumstance, he would have.

Instead he proved to be an ineffective fullback who could operate equally as inefficiently at centre half as well, and he made 27 absolutely un-noteworthy appearances in our inaugural season in the Blue Square Premier.

Sinclair was sent off in Steve Tilson’s last match in charge, a horrific 4-0 defeat away at Tamworth. He was sent off in the 60th minute as we trailed 1-0, and if his red cad contributed to our former manager getting the boot then at least he did do something positive for the team.

David Holdsworth didn’t fancy Sinclair though, he had his own ideas about trialling every useless non-league player he could think of, and as such he Sinclair didn’t play for the club after our 2-0 defeat at home to York on January 7th 2012. Just to make this even harder reading, he later appeared for Carshalton.

  1. Josh Howling was a real cultured centre half we should have kept. Without him we would have been in the blue Square north.
    Talented player.
