Thanks: Ian Baraclough
This might be an odd choice for some, but Ian Baraclough was one of the players I admired growing up. The left-sided defender had versatility to press forward and a wicked left foot that rarely missed a penalty.
Baraclough could operate in defence or midfield and was an imposing figure wherever he played on the park. He stood at 6’1 but could get up and down the left flank as mobile as any full back.
Like all the others on the list, he joined us from the Cods directly. It came after a short loan spell and he went on to make over 90 appearances for the club. It came as some shock when he was allowed to leave for Mansfield Town, but the run of games at Sincil Bank helped set him up for a stellar career at Notts County and Queens Park Rangers.
After his playing career, he moved into coaching under Nigel Adkins at Scunthorpe United and eventually succeeded him as manager. He also manager Sligo Rovers and Motherwell before taking on the assistant manager role at Oldham Athletic.
