No Thanks – 2011

Dare I? Dare I really bring this up? I’ve already thanked them for key figures in our 2016/17 promotion, and for one of out 1987/88 heroes, dare I now lay the debacle that unfolded in early May 2011 at their feet?

Our demise wasn’t down to Vale, it was down to Steve Tilson, Chris Sutton and a lot of utterly wank footballers, but on that final day they could have done us a favour. All we needed was for them to beat Barnet and maybe, just maybe we’d kick on. Tilson might have attracted better players to the club. Might, might.

Of course, history tells us the spell in the National League was good for us, we shed our old skin and acquired a whole new persona, but that memory still stings today. Huddled around the DJ booth desperately hoping former Imp Louis Dodds could do us a favour and score past Barnet, saving our skin. He didn’t, they lost and the rest is history.
