A Premier League XI, Lincoln City Style

Recently, I was introduced to this great stats app that compares players from across divisions, looking at their profiles and suggesting other players of the same profile.

It’s the same one Chris used when analysing Deji Elerewe after his move to City, and while it looks great for scouting, comparisons and the like, it can also be used for a bit of fun. Because it looks at profile, and not ability, it means we can compare the City squad with players from top leagues, and create the most Lincoln City XI but from Premier League players.

That means players who would fit our profile and style of play, rather than those we think would. Using stats from this campaign, the app looks at position, numbers and a host of other data to suggest the players most aligned to each other, marking them in similarity out of 100%.

For a bit of fun, I thought I’d create a team of Premier League players who are most aligned with our current team. I’ve taken a little creative licence in terms of which of our players I have used, and while I call it an XI, it’s actually just a X (that’s ten) because the app doesn’t compare keepers.

Still, let’s start with a keeper comparison I have made of my own, shall we?

GK: George Wickens – Senne Lammens (Manchester United)

This isn’t a comparison made by the app, but it is one I have made myself. The two have a similar ‘goals prevented’ stat this season, as well as being the same age (23). They’re a similar size as well, with two inches the difference, so to kick us off, I’m having Lammens as my Lincoln City Premier League alternative.
