Two league fixtures involving our local non-league sides, along with a Lincolnshire derby friendly, took place last night, with mixed fortunes across the county.
The standout league fixture came at Zeeco Stadium, where Harborough Town hosted Stamford AFC. With Harborough sitting nine points behind Spalding United but holding four games in hand, this was an important evening at both ends of the table. Stamford, rooted to the bottom and desperately in need of a change in momentum to avoid relegation, were unable to rise to the challenge.
Harborough claimed a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory, with David Hamara scoring once in each half to secure all three points. For Stamford, the outlook remains bleak, with a thin squad stretched by injuries and ongoing financial constraints, leaving survival hopes increasingly dependent on a remarkable turnaround.
Difficult For Pinchbeck
Elsewhere, it was another difficult night for Pinchbeck United, who were beaten 5-1 at home by Retford FC. Despite naming two new signings on the bench, Matthew Drought and Cameron Rankin, Pinchbeck found themselves 2-0 down at the break, and the contest drifted further away after half-time. Retford continued to apply pressure, eventually running out convincing winners, with Luke Cullen’s 20-yard strike in the 89th minute providing a late consolation for the hosts.
The evening was rounded off by a friendly clash between Grantham Town and Lincoln United. In a low-key local derby, Grantham edged the contest 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal, giving them the bragging rights on the night.
