A new defensive option has been secured by Gainsborough Trinity with the arrival of centre back Jack Leckie, who joins the Holy Blues from National League North outfit Alfreton Town.
Leckie brings significant physical presence to Trinity’s back line, standing at 6 feet 6 inches, and arrives with experience from a number of professional academy environments. He began his youth career with Newcastle United before moving on to complete a two-year scholarship at Burnley, prior to joining Hull City in 2022.
Although he did not make a senior league appearance for the Tigers, Leckie was a regular within their development structure and later captained Hull’s under-21 side. Senior experience followed through loan spells in National League North, including two separate stints with Farsley Celtic and a later temporary move to Chorley, where he featured nine times during the latter part of the 2024–25 season.
After being released by Hull City at the end of that campaign, the 22-year-old signed for Alfreton Town and featured in the Isuzu FA Trophy earlier in the season, playing a part in a 2-1 victory over Gainsborough.

Leckie now adds further depth to the defensive options available to the Trinity management team, with Russ Wilcox welcoming the move.
“Jack Leckie will be an excellent addition to the squad. I remember him well from his Hull City days. He will add presence, quality and competition to the group. Welcome on board Jack.”
The temporary agreement makes Leckie available for selection in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, with his debut potentially set to come alongside fellow recent defensive recruit Ashton Offler. Both players have yet to make their first appearances following recent postponements, with fixtures against Bamber Bridge and Ashton United falling victim to the weather.
Trinity sit seventh in the division after 21 matches, with 33 points, keeping them firmly in touch with the play off positions. Home form has been solid rather than dominant, while five away wins from ten matches suggest a team that is comfortable playing on the counter and picking up results on the road.
Recent results underline that steady profile. A six-match sequence featuring two wins, three draws and one defeat has kept Trinity ticking over, highlighted by an impressive 3-0 away victory at Warrington Town and a controlled 2-0 home win over Cleethorpes Town. Draws against Morpeth Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels and Ilkeston Town, alongside a narrow 3-2 defeat at Guiseley, point to fine margins between turning solid performances into stronger momentum.
