Usually, when I scout Twitter after an Imps game, I want to find some reference to Lincoln City amongst the opposition tweets.
Sadly, Port Vale fans seem to think the 4-0 win for us is a case of them being terrible, rather than us being good. I think there’s some truth in both arguments, Jason Shackell shouldn’t have got his header and Michael O’Connor should have been closed down quicker, but even with those gifts the players still had to finish.
There’s clearly discontent already over at Vale Park, despite winning one of their opening three games. some fans feel the players are not performing for Neil Aspin, others are worried the terrible form shown by the side at the second half of last season is continuing.
One poster even pointed to us fielding our reserves as a reason to lament his side. Lets not forget, the players we class as reserves included a two-time Championship winner, our leading scorer and seasoned professionals such as Tom Pett and Matt Rhead. Grant Smith was the England C keeper and Ellis Chapman is the most exciting player to emerge from our youth team since Jack Hobbs. Reserves? If you like.
For those who are interested, here is a selection of the doom and gloom emanating from Vale fans in the aftermath of last night’s result.
Concentrate on trying to stay in the league that is

What the hell was being worked on in pre-season? The least could expect is just a hint of defensive organisation. Shameful

And they played a team of reserves. Shame the season had to start again.

Suprised there were still any Vale fans left in the stands at full time… Players don’t deserve the support they get right now! They all talk the talk in their interviews, but if they can’t back it up when and where it matters, their words aren’t worth nowt!

Not heard anti-Aspin talk in the crowds as much since he’s been here than tonight. Need a positive result on Saturday or the pressure on Aspin is gonna grow. Totally agree with Anthony Kay, gets stick because of his age but passed the ball well and almost had a goal.

These players are not playing for Aspin, once a manager loses the players it's virtually impossible get them back.
