On a quiet weekend for the Imps, a number of our local non-league clubs were in action this weekend.
Matches involving Gainsborough Trinity and Lincoln United were both postponed before kick off, meaning limited focus across the divisions.
Boston United played their first home game under new manager Paul Hurst, welcoming Southend United to the Jakemans Community Stadium. Boston handed a debut to new goalkeeper Andrew Wogan, an Irish under-21 international on loan from Stockport County. Southend took the lead in the 19th minute through Dallass, before Boston responded to level the game in the 28th minute via Lennell John-Lewis.
The scores were level at half-time. Boston took control in the second half, going ahead through a Maguire penalty and extending their lead when John-Lewis scored again. Southend were awarded a penalty in the 66th minute, converted by Dallass for his second goal, before Spasov equalised in the 81st minute, leaving the points shared.
League leaders beaten
League leaders Spalding United went into their match against Banbury United following news that Toin Olpade had extended his contract for another season. Spalding took a ninth-minute lead through Pendle and were ahead at half-time. The game turned in the second half when Hart was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, and the ten men conceded twice to suffer defeat. With Harborough Town winning, the gap at the top was reduced to three points, with Harborough holding three games in hand.
At the other end of the table, AFC Stamford came into their fixture against Needham Market on the back of two consecutive wins and a new signing in Abdul Saad from Easwood. In a tight contest, a 92nd-minute goal from Lobjoit secured all three points, leaving Stamford third from bottom and three points from safety.
Top-of-the-table Boston Town hosted Ashby Ivanhoe and made a strong start when Leo Priestley scored in the eighth minute. Ashby equalised through Moffett in the 33rd minute, but Richard Ford restored Boston’s lead just before half-time. Zac Munton added a third in the 68th minute. Ashby pulled one back through Wise in the 75th minute, but Boston held on for the win.
Grantham Town collected all three points away at Heanor Town, with Andrew Wright scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.
Elsewhere, Pinchbeck United took an early two-goal lead against Dunkirk through goals from Foster in the tenth minute and Ward five minutes later. Dunkirk responded with a penalty in the 34th minute and an equaliser in the 42nd, which proved to be the final score.
Sleaford Town were beaten 2-1 away at Retford, while Skegness Town lost 4-1 at home to Newark Town. Despite missing several chances, Skegness’ consolation goal arrived in the 91st minute through Radford after Newark had gone 4-0 up.
Finally, Harrowby United defeated Kimberley Miners Welfare, with new signing Thomas Hill scoring the winning goal in the 68th minute.
