Given Jez’s interview last night, we know that this is probably guff, and given it’s come from Alan Nixon, we can double down on that.
Still, an industry-respected journalist has linked us to a striker, so it’s worth reporting, even if this article should come free with a little sachet of salt for you to take a pinch from. That said, part of the news was reported elsewhere earlier in the week, without our name, so he might just have peppered an existing news story with a couple more clubs for traction.
According to Nixon on his Patreon, we’re one of a number of clubs looking at 27-year-old St Johnstone striker Adama Sidibeh. This is possibly not one for the winter window, as the report suggests Northampton and Stevenage are set to make pre-contract offers to the Gambian international.
We’re then named as a possible suitor ‘watching this month’ along with Barnsley, MK Dons and Bristol Rovers. Lots of clubs suggest an agent-led story, perhaps, but he is allegedly waiting to see if there is Championship interest.
Well, Adama, we’re mentioned, so it’s as good as, right?

Joking aside, is he a viable prospect? He’s got seven goals in nine games for Gambia, three against the Seychelles and two against both Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. He’s got seven in 26 for St Johnstone in the Scottish Championship this season, with three of those coming in a single match against Airdrie, and one against League Two side East Kilbride in the cup.
He does have four goal involvements in his last four matches, but is underperforming his xG, with six goals from 6.42 xG. He does like to get on the ball and run, he’s relatively quick and sets up a shot for others every other game, but I’m just not sure.
It doesn’t entirely add up, 27, so not huge resale value, and while he did explode onto the scene in the SPFL, last season he only scored six across 39 games in all competitions as his side were relegated. Prior to his spell with St Johnstone, he was playing for Warrington Rylands, which is Gainsborough Trinity level.
I’m not so sure this is the type of player we’d be pursuing if we were firmly ensconced in mid-table in League One, let alone sitting with a decent chance of a play-off spot and maybe, just maybe, a place in the second tier.
