Wycombe Wanderers Linked With Championship Swoop

Wycombe Wanderers are considering a January move for Ipswich Town midfielder Cameron Humphreys as they look to strengthen their squad during the winter transfer window.

The League One side are reported to be exploring the possibility of bringing the 22-year-old back to Adams Park following his highly successful loan spell with the club last season. According to reports, Wycombe are keen to add midfield depth as the second half of the campaign approaches and see Humphreys as a familiar option.

Humphreys enjoyed an outstanding 2024–25 season on loan with Wycombe Wanderers, where he became a key figure across all competitions. He made 50 appearances, scored seven goals, and was voted the club’s Player of the Season, underlining the impact he made during his time in Buckinghamshire. His performances also earned him strong backing from supporters and coaching staff, with the midfielder operating primarily in a central role but also filling in at left-back when required.

Despite that progress, opportunities have been limited this season at Ipswich Town. Humphreys has made four Championship appearances, totalling just nine minutes of league action, and has started only once, that coming in Ipswich’s League Cup defeat to Bromley in August. He remains on the fringes of the first team under manager Kieran McKenna, despite being highly regarded within the club.

A product of the Ipswich Town academy, Humphreys signed his first professional contract in 2021 and made his senior debut later that year. He was part of Ipswich’s League One runner-up side in 2022–23 and their Championship promotion-winning campaign in 2023–24, although his involvement was limited during those seasons. His development accelerated significantly during his loan spell at Wycombe, where regular football allowed him to establish himself at a senior level.

Wycombe are monitoring the situation as they assess potential reinforcements after their awful start has manifested into a potential top-six charge. Any move would depend on Ipswich’s willingness to sanction another loan and whether a deal can be structured to suit all parties involved.

Wycombe are the Imps’ final opponents at Sincil Bank this season, with the meeting scheduled for April 25th, the penultimate game of the season.
