Boos Ring Out As Former Imp Involved In Controversial Decision

I recall once being at a Lincoln game and hearing boos as we brought a player on.

I’m pretty sure it was Morgan Whittaker, but I also recall vehement clapping and cheering when Jovon Makama was brought off in a game. Just 12 months ago, there were people who would have been happy to see him go out to the National League on loan.

It must be nice for Makama to be the hero, for a change, given some of the stick he got here. This week, as sorry Norwich got beaten once again, he was taken off to a chorus of boos. They weren’t aimed at him, though. They were aimed at Liam Manning, as the 21-year-old was widely regarded as one of the best players wearing yellow.

Our first £1 million player has made quite the impact at Carrow Road, looking like one of the few forward-thinking players in Liam Manning’s squad. They’re in disarray, with captain Kenny McClean taking the blame, but Manning is on the brink after just a handful of matches.

Those circumstances might have been too much for a young player from League One to stand, but Jovon is made of stronger stuff. Despite the toxic atmosphere at Carrow Road, he is thriving and has won supporters over quickly. While Manning and DoF Ben Knapper fear for their futures, Jovon’s looks bright.

That’s great news for us. If he does thrive, there is a sizeable sell-on fee, and plenty of other bonuses built into the deal. It could rise to much more than the reported £1.2m. He currently has nine Championship appearances to his name, with two goals. However, one of those two came in his first start, and the Derby game was only the second time he’s been on the field from the off.

Norwich may be in trouble and set for big changes, but as things stand, Jovon Makama is looking like one of the very few bright spots in a disastrous campaign for the Canaries. As my Dad’s favourite Imp of the last two years, it gives me great delight to see him being backed by those Norfolk supporters.
