Attendances Are Falling – No, They’re Not, and Here’s Proof

Lowest – 7,320 v Barnet

Highest – 10,004 v Yeovil Town

It’s no real surprise Danny and Nicky have the best attendance overall. What it proves is that in League One and League Two, the level of opposition is irrelevant. If you’re winning, fans will come, and as two whole seasons here were in League Two, the numbers are really good.

Only six times did we get below 8,000 for a Cowley game, and only three times was that on a Saturday. The lowest Saturday attedance came in November 2017 as we beat Port Vale 3-1, a week after we lost 2-1 to Coventry in front of 9,581.

Danny and Nicky’s best midweek game came in October 2018, when we drew 2-2 Carlisle in the Watergate pitch game. We got more than 9,000 on 26 occasions, spread fairly evenly across their two-and-a-bit seasons.

These numbers seem good, given the level of opposition. It’s fair to say the top games – Colchester (9,832), Yeovil (10,004), Cheltenham (9,820) and Exeter City (9,785)- are not against traditional powerhouses, so it was a successful team that drove those, unlike the big club bumps the others enjoyed.

However, it is also worth pointing out that if the Exeter play-off semi-final were to be removed, the average attendance under DC would actually be six fans fewer than under Michael Appleton….

Just saying… #JusticeForTheBigApple
