Attendances Are Falling – No, They’re Not, and Here’s Proof

2nd – Michael Appleton (8887)

Lowest – 7,571 v Morecambe

Highest – 10,346 v Sunderland

Obviously, I haven’t included the Covid season in these figures, so Michael Appleton gets just one full season of numbers, and the final ones from the 2019/20 campaign. That leaves him with an average attendance of just 35 more than Michael Skubala and, shockingly perhaps, just six supporters shy of Danny Cowley.

Under Appleton, we cracked 10,000 on five occasions, helped, of course, by playing Sunderland at home twice. We beat 9,000 on 13 occasions, and only slipped below 8,000 three times, with MK Dons, Wimbledon and Morecambe the midweek visitors.

The lowest Saturday attendance under the Big Apple was 8,047 against Shrewsbury Town, and the highest midweek figure was 9,876 against Rotherham, although unusually that was a Friday.
