Where Are These Former Imps Transfer Targets Now? (Part 2)

Sinclair Armstrong

The Sinclair Armstrong link was reported by Darren Witcoop, and a club insider has since informed me he was on our shortlist of strikers. Armstrong was at QPR at the time, as was Mike Garrity, and some thought it put us in pole position for the player, who appeared on a shortlist of three or four players. One of those was Luke Plange, who we ended up with.

Armstrong remained at QPR, failing to score in 24 outings last season. This campaign he has registered a goal for the Hoops, and he made his debut for Ireland last night as a late sub in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands.

Rory Brown

Football Insider linked us with Rory Brown towards the end of last season, and it seemed a crazy link. After all, we’d surely bring a loan keeper in, so why sign another, given Sam Long and Jordan Wright are around the club? As it turned out, we were looking for a stopper of our own, ending up with Lukas Jensen.

Brown, a former Wolves youth, is Glenavon’s number one and has remained so this season. He’s played seven times this season, but his side are currently second-bottom in the division.

Aaron Wightman

Belfast Live only linked us with Aaron Wightman in May, so he hasn’t done an awful lot since. Like Brown, he’s in the Northern Ireland Premier League, but his side, Glentoran, are currently second. He’s appeared in Europe this season, against Maltese side Gzira, but didn’t play in the second leg, resulting in a 14-13 penalties defeat.

He’s currently playing right back for them, but missed much of August through injury and only returned this week as a second-half sub against Newry.
