Ainsworth Scored a Hat Trick in His Last Appearance at Sincil Bank

We all love Sir Gareth, and often people fondly recall the hat trick he scored in his last game for the club. I remember it; I was there at the Stacey West End as he bagged all three in a 3-3 draw with Scarborough.

The problem is, it wasn’t his final game, not at Sincil Bank. Three days later, we lost 2-0 at home against Mansfield Town, and Ainsworth played. Even that wasn’t his final game; a week later we went to Rotherham and lost 3-1, another game he played in. Sir Gareth actually played 180 minutes after his Scarborough hat trick.
