Wycombe and Lincoln: A Short But Lively History

Wycombe 0-3 Imps 2006

There’s no doubt we enjoy some trips to Adams Park, not least at the end of the second Keith era and the start of the John Schofield period. The latter brought us a big win, which often gets mentioned, but I wanted to pick out this fine 3-0 win in Keith’s final season. That last team Keith built was far from his best, but they worked hard, battled every ball and got their rewards. Having lost 2-1 at home earlier in the season, The Imps had picked up and were pushing up the table and towards the play-offs. City were without a win in four, since beating Grimsby 5-0.

488 Imps made the journey and Wycombe were again well supported with 5750 the crowd. A tepid first half saw little action, but the game exploded into life on 62 minutes when Jamie Forrester added to his growing tally to put City 1-0 up. Francis Green added a second with a nice right-footed finish, before Jamies Forrester put the game to bed ten minutes from time. A couple of weeks later, we lost at Grimsby in the play-off semi-final, and Keith packed up his yellow socks for the final time.
