No Thanks – Lance Key

Sheffield Wednesday a Twitteren: "🔑 A fair few correct answers.. Lance Key was that man 🧤 https://t.co/zO5yWWFOXx… "

If you’re thinking ‘who on earth was Lance Key’ you are probably justified. In the grand scheme of Imps history, he didn’t have a big role to play, but like the others on the list, his history is intertwined with other former Owls. Sam Ellis managed David Johnson at the club, and he also raided Sheff Weds for a loan keeper, namely Key.

He made just five appearances for the Imps on loan at the start of the tumultuous 1995/96 season. His debut saw us beat eventual champions Preston North End 2-1, but then he conceded 11 in just four further games before being replaced by John Vaughan. He struggled to find regular first-team football anywhere in the Football League after that. Other loan spells included Oldham Athletic, Oxford United, Hartlepool United and Rochdale before a free transfer move to Dundee United in July 1996. He played just three games for them and 19 for Rochdale before moving into non-league. He appeared regularly for Northwich Victoria and Kingstonian and was a member of the Histon team that reached the Second Round of The FA Cup in 2005/06.
