Worst Performance of the Month – Morecambe 5.13

I’m not sure what surprises me more; the fact we didn’t get anything at Morecambe or the fact it scored slightly higher than our defeat at Oxford. I think what stung about this result was the fact we should have taken something. We were decent for 15 minutes, but looked lacklustre after that. We should have had an XI capable of taking down the Shrimpers, even with the injuries. That wasn’t really the case against Oxford, and for my money this was the worst performance of the season. You don’t agree.
Liam Bridcutt was your Man of the Match with a 6.2, and only two other players (Poole and Griffiths) came out of this with a six. It certainly wasn’t a season highlight, and serves to prove if you’re not on your mettle, anyone will beat you in this division.

Best Performance of the Month – Cambridge 8.00

Often, we reserve our best performances for the EFL Trophy. Bradford was the best in August, and the likes of Accrington, Shrewsbury and Hull all stood out last season. This month, we’ve got a league game to celebrate, and what a game it was. The Imps proved that the magic from last season is still there; it’s a little harder to tease out, but when we’re good, we’re very, very good.
Like the 1953 Cup Final was called the Matthews Final, this could be called the Scully Affair (as you’ll see in a second), but there wasn’t a bad performer on the field. I believe it is the single highest-scoring performance from last season and this bar one; the play-off semi-final against Sunderland. Not a single player scored less than 7.2, and there were seven players on eight or more. It was a great afternoon, no doubt.

Best Individual Performance of the Month – Anthony Scully v Cambridge United 9.8

For those who wondered, Scully was the fourth-highest rated player this month, and the only other one to finish on more than seven. He still gets a mention, for what has to be the single best performance from any Lincoln City player in recent memory. Scully crucified his full-back at the Abbey Stadium, scoring two and assisting all three goals. He was not just on fire; he was like a tornado destroying everything in his path. 9.8 is an utterly unique points score and one I simply cannot see ever being beaten.
It is the second time he has won individual performance of the month in as many months. When this boy is good, he is very, very good. Teams are sharpening up on it, though, and he did find life a bit more difficult once this standout performance was one video players up and down the land.
