Free Agent Keepers The Imps Might Target

The Best of the Rest

I guess this role is different from most because we’re looking for backup, not a starter. In case of injury, we need a player to fill the spot on the bench, so a veteran may be the way we go. Stuart Nelson is certainly that; he’s 39 and might be looking for a route into coaching. Mark Howard is another well into his thirties; he was in goal for Sheffield United during much of their stay in League One and was most recently at Scunthorpe so knows the area. 37-year-old Lee Camp is another who might fit the bill – he’s had a plethora of clubs, including Derby, Forest, QPR, Birmingham and, briefly, West Brom. There are then plenty of young keepers out there, in the Charlie Andrew mould, such as Emmanuel Idem, Will Huffer, and Michael Crowe.
