Ben Woodburn

Woodburn is something of a forgotten man at Liverpool, but he is still only 21. He became their youngest ever scorer way back in 2016, whilst we were scrabbling around in the National League, and he looked set for a successful career. What followed is a cautionary tale of making the wrong loan moves. His first, to Sheffield United, saw a decent winger join a side that played 3-5-2 rigidly, so there wasn’t really a place there for him, and his loan ended early. In 2019/20, he joined Oxford United, and whilst his ability was obvious, he had an injury-hit and inconsistent spell. Last season, he joined Blackpool and worked under his former Liverpool mentor Neil Critchley, but he couldn’t get the best out of the Welshman either. With 13 goalless appearances to his name, he returned to Liverpool in January. Multiple clubs are interested in a permanent deal, which Klopp won’t block, but the youngster has impressed in pre-season and if he wants to save his Liverpool career, a stint at the Bank might do the trick.
