James Wilson – Keith Alexander

I’m not really sure what happened with James Wilson. He should have been a cut above everything we had at Lincoln when he arrived and his early promise gave us hope of finding a new number six for years to come. Sadly, the broken ankle sustained against Cambridge hit him hard and by the time he got back to full fitness, he was left in the doldrums.
Eventually, after being played at right back and once in midfield, he left the club and is currently with Ipswich where he hasn’t really impressed me in our clashes. I can’t help but think he’d have been a big success playing for Keith Alexander’s sides.
Firstly, he was decent in the air, something that Keith liked to utilise. He didn’t get the nod ahead of the likes of Luke Waterfall, Bozzy or even Scott Wharton, but if he played for Keith he would have been part of a three-man defence, affording him more cover. I felt at times, James Wilson had a slip in him, that’s proven with his outings for Ipswich this season, but with cover from the likes of Paul Morgan, it wouldn’t have mattered. Simon Weaver looked class with Morgs at his side and I suspect James Wilson would have been a great fit in a defensive three.
In fact, part of me wonders if that is exactly why he was signed: Danny went 3-5-2 in that opening game against Northampton last season, but he was dropped for the switch back to 4-4-1-1 when we beat Swindon the following week.
Simon Yeo in Micheal Appleton’s team now, just think he would fit in well with the way MA wants to play.
Great Shout!
A YOUNG Lee Frecklington in Michael Appleton’s team. What a waste in Danny Cowley’s team, spending most games watching the ball sail backwards and forwards over his head.
Now I know why I never progressed beyond village football level as a player. I just did not have the right manger – if only I had Sir Alex, I could have been a Bobby Charlton look alike!
