Thanks, No Thanks: Blackpool

No Thanks: Ben Dixon

Once upon a time, we produced really good young players. That time might be coming around again, but one intake was massively successful, bringing us Matt Carbon, Darren Huckerby and Ben Dixon to name but three. I believe Ellis’ Dad Darren also played in that youth team as well.

Ben Dixon was a Lincoln born youngster who at just 17 years 177 days old when he made his debut in Feb 1992.  Despite his talent, he never seemed to get a good run in the first team and left for Blackpool in 1996. It was such a shame, he didn’t enjoy the success of Huckerby or Carbon but for a while, he looked fully capable of doing so.

It was Gary Megson who took him to Blackpool, having spotted his talent during the short stint he had as a player at Sincil Bank. It didn’t work out for Dixon though, he made just 13 appearances for the Seasiders before slipping into non-league.
