No Thanks: Gary Brabin

Some of you will perhaps remember Brabin’s short spell with City fondly, but not me.

He was a robust midfielder signed on loan in 1998 shortly after chairman John Reames took over as manager. He was a team mate of Bruce Grobbelaar for his two games, then lasted a further three games before heading off back to Blackpool. With his added steel, we only lost once in five games and despite appearing a little portly he wasn’t that bad, at the time.

The season afterwards Brabin signed for Hull City and managed to spoil any reputation he may have had with Lincoln by getting sent off in our derby match at Sincil Bank. Whilst his strength and bravery helped him in a Lincoln shirt, his thuggery and vicious nature damaged him in amber and black.

In recent years, he moved into management and hasn’t helped himself by being an outspoken critic of Lincoln. He was accused of attacking a steward whilst manager of Luton Town and isn’t someone I’d like to see at the Bank in any capacity, ever.
