I might have mentioned Payne before, but I’m going to talk about him again because he would be a top signing for us. He spent last season on loan at Bradford and although they went down, he scored nine goals and chipped in with five assists. In a side that crumbled apart for much of the season, that’s impressive.

The year before that he helped Blackburn to promotion and there is something about him I like. He’s got an energy to his play and I could see him behind John Akinde, or out wide. He’s versatile, he can play in the bank of three behind the striker or drop deeper into midfield as well.

He spent three years at Southend United, that might see him on Danny’s radar as a player from the south. He’s been released by Huddersfield and I firmly believe he’ll end up in League One. If that’s in red and white for us, we’ll have secured a massive coup.
