SW Player Review 2018/19 – The Full Backs

Harry Toffolo

We’ve played 42 league matches this season. Harry Toffolo has played in all 42. We made three appearances in the FA Cup, of which Toffolo played in all three. That’s the definition of ever-present. When we’ve played, Toff has played.

He’s been lucky with a couple of tackles, one that sticks in my mind at Yeovil perhaps deserved a red card, but he rode that storm and has kept himself fit. He’s not just been fit in the literal sense, he’s reached incredible levels.

He’s not your average left back. Sam Habergham for instance is a left back in the strictest sense. He can get forwards, but is a reliable figure who won’t be caught too far up the pitch. Toff isn’t. he’s a wing back, strong in attack with a habit of popping up on the edge of the area to bag goals.

He’s created and scored, just like Neal Eardley has, but he’s stood out more because of that attacking prowess. On the right, Eardley and Anderson have a relationship which focuses a lot on Anderson getting in behind and laying it back to Neal. On the left, Toffolo is just as likely to be getting in behind, overlapping Bruno. They’re more dynamic, interchangeable and it’s meant he’s caught the eye.

I believe Harry Toffolo should be a major contender for Player of the Season. His attitude has always been superb, he is a threat going forward and competent at the back and, if he stays fit, he’ll be the only ever-present in our title-winning side of 2019. That’s a huge achievement in his first full season with us.

If you’re reading this as a non-Lincoln fan, do keep an eye on Harry Toffolo, he’s got the potential to go a long way in the game.
