The Thank You Article: Exeter City

Thank You – Jason Minett

There’s a two-fold thank you I think here. when he first arrived, Minett was cetrainly a popular character who didn’t let the club down.

He had spent three seasons at Exeter City before joining us in 1995. He only missed four games of the awful 1995/96 season which saw us change managers twice in just a few short weeks. He even weighed in with a few goals during that season, scoring in back to back league matches against Doncaster (1-1) and Hereford (2-1). Later bagged a brace in the reverse fixture against Doncaster (4-0) and another in the penultimate match away at Northampton (1-1).

He found his chances severely limited under John Beck. The hard-nosed manager liked a more ‘uncomplicated’ approach to his play and Jason Barnett emerged as a player favoured over Minett. He found himself on the bench in our Coca Cola Cup run, coming on against Man City at Maine Road, but by January 1997 it became clear he had no future at Sincil Bank.

He re-joined Exeter City on January 17th 1997 and it fairness probably did us a favour by coming off the wage bill. The next season we were promoted and Minett wouldn’t have got a game. Cheers Exeter, for essentially loaning us a player for a couple of years.
